At the Houston Auxiliary's first fundraiser in 1952, adoptive parents gave Mrs. Gladney a platinum ring with five diamonds in honor of her 25th anniversary as Superintendent of the Home. For once in her life, Mrs. Gladney was speechless!

In September 1906, Edna virtually left her fiancé at the altar and eloped with flour miller Sam Gladney, a Texas native. The newlyweds lived in Fort Worth but frequently traveled to Havana, Cuba on flower milling business.

125 Facts: Edna's legislative battles

Edna's passionate support of the birth certificate legislation and her assertion that "there are no illegitimate children, only illegitimate parents" led many Texas legislators to refer to her as "that Gladney woman." Thanks to her efforts Texas passed a bill in 1936 and became the first state in the Southwest to legally remove the stigma of illegitimacy from birth records.

125th Celebration Boxes

Our local Gladney Adult Adoptee group has organized a fundraising initiative to celebrate Gladney’s 125th.  Each box will have a gift valued at $50 or more and one box will hold the grand prize of a beautiful Baume Mercier watch valued at $5,000.  They will be only be selling 125 of the celebration boxes during the cocktail reception at the 125th Anniversary Gala.

Good Morning Texas segment on April 16

Calling all Families!!!  On April 16th Gladney will be on Good Morning Texas talking about our 125th Anniversary and the Skittle.  We will have a train on set- out in the plaza as well as clowns and balloons.  We would like to have as many families and children to be a part of this fun segment. They will go on train rides, interact with the clowns just be the adorable kids they are.  Mark Melson will be interviewed and he will be talking about Gladney’s 125th Anniversary, our legacy and the Skittle!
