125 Facts: Transitional Care

The Transitional Care program currently has more than 20 families who volunteer to care for babies. Between the time a baby is discharged from the hospital and placement day, he or she may be cared for by loving Transitional Care Families. These families are volunteers that have opened their hearts and homes to care for Gladney babies waiting to be adopted.

In 2012, the Gladney Center for Adoption announced its 125th anniversary of bringing families together. As one of the nation's largest agencies providing both domestic and international adoption services, the Gladney Center for Adoption has placed almost 30,000 children with forever families, and has acted as a pioneer and leading advocate for adopted children, adoptive families and birth parents.

My husband is a pilot for the U.S. Air Force. One afternoon, he was departing on a weekend trip when our caseworker called and said she had some news. A 6-week-old baby girl in transitional care was ready to be placed in a forever home.

125 Facts: Edna Gladney born 1886

Interesting Fact: Edna Gladney was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 22, 1886. She was the daughter of an unmarried mother, Minnie Nell Jones, and an unknown British father. Minnie later married jeweler/sales clerk/confectionery baker Maurice Kahly, who gave Edna his name and fathered her sister Dorothy (born 1895).
