Hurricane Harvey Resources For Our Gladney Family

Hurricane Harvey is bringing hardship to millions of people, and sadly many Gladney Families have been affected.  Gladney wants you to know help and resources are just a click or phone call away.  Below is a mini resource guide to assist you with getting the help you may be seeking.

I Need Help

How do I help my child process the anxiety and stress they are feeling from the aftermath of Harvey?
• Take a breath. Start getting back into as many of your daily routines as you can. Studies show that routine is important for children to feel secure. Even little things like the same night-time ritual make a difference.
• Reach out to Gladney’s Post Adoption Department at 800-452-3639 to talk to one of our Adoption Specialists.
• Register for two upcoming Gladney University Trainings:
o September 21, 2017 – Common Concerns in Children
o September 26, 2017 – Anxiety in Children and Adolescents
• Utilize your Employee Advocate Program if you have one. They can offer local resources for you and your children.
How can I get copies of our family’s adoption records? We lost everything.
• Email or call Gladney’s Post Adoption Department at or 800-452-3639.
How can I receive help for my Foster Children affected by Harvey?
• To receive funding to support a child in your foster home during this time, make a funding request.

I Want To Help

How can I help financially?
• There are many organizations that do amazing work to help those in need during times of crisis. It’s important to do your research and contribute to the organizations that align with your goals and belief system.
o American Red Cross
o Salvation Army
o Other Charities Providing Assistance in the Wake of Hurricane Harvey
o Two of Gladney Staff Favorites:
Texas Diaper Bank – let’s take care of the children
Undies for Everyone – help people maintain their dignity
How can I help physically?
• No matter where you live, blood donations are always needed. In North Texas, Carter BloodCare will send blood donations to its partners affected by Hurricane Harvey. North Texas donors can text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999 and a Carter BloodCare employee can tell you times and places to donate or call 1-877-571-1000.
• A lot of shelters are asking for gently used clothing. Find your closest shelter and ask if they need volunteers. It makes a great family project.
How can I help Foster Youth and Foster Families affected by Harvey?
• To donate items, contact your local Rainbow Room.  They need new, unopened supplies such as diapers, baby formula, blankets, school supplies, and toiletries.
• To give money, please make donations to the Texas Center for Child and Family Studies, a charitable organization that provides basic needs to assist foster youth and foster families.

If  we have not addressed your need, please call 800-Gladney to be connected with a team member who can point you in the right direction. Together, we can make a difference.
