Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller
About the Job
The Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller is a member of the Financial Operations team (FinOps) and will play a key role in evolving the Accounting Department into a strategic business partner. The role will work closely with the Controller, Chief Financial Officer and internal clients. Some responsibilities of this role include ensuring a seamless monthly closing process, which entails performing account reviews and reconciliations, adjusting entries, generating reports, and developing and presenting financial and operational insights. Additionally, this role will provide back-up support to the organization’s Controller in carrying out their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in defining and implementing a robust monthly close and reporting process across the Financial Operations team.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for staff regarding finance-related matters, handling escalations when necessary.
- Produce precise, high-quality work in a timely manner, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounting reviews, and both regular and ad-hoc reports.
- Communicate financial data and insights effectively to all levels of the organization, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Lead or participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, expanding capabilities, and improving service delivery across the organization.
- Manage and ensure compliance with external reporting requirements as necessary.
- Act as a key leader within the organization, showcasing and further developing senior-level leadership skills.
- Contribute to organizational effectiveness initiatives, including leadership development and change management efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization’s operational needs and contribute to the team’s overall success.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
- 3 years of experience in an Accounting and/or Financial Analysis position.
- Proven track record of leading processes and delivering accurate, timely work products.
- Practical experience working in complex organizational environments.
- Proficient in using automated accounting systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to address complex challenges.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in group settings.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on driving results and achieving goals.
- Excellent time management skills, ensuring projects are completed and delivered on schedule.
