Adopting a Child Internationally
Colombia
To adopt a child who is 0 - 71 month old or 2 siblings who are 0-6 years:
Marriage
Couples must be married a minimum of one year.*
Age
- Both applicants must be 25 to 50 years of age.
- Oldest parent has to be least 15 years older than the child assigned to them, but not more than 45 years older than the youngest child adopting.
Citizenship
- At least one applicant must be a US citizen.
- At least one applicant must be a Colombian citizen or have a Colombian heritage.
History
- No major medical issues.
- No criminal history.
To adopt a child who is 7-14 month old or 2 siblings with the oldest sibling between 7 and 14 years:
Marriage
Couples must be married a minimum of one year.*
Age
- Both applicants must be at least 26 years of age.
- Both parents have to be least 15 years older than the child assigned to them, but not more than 45 years older than the youngest child adopting.
Citizenship
- At least one applicant must be a US citizen.
- At least one applicant must be a Colombian citizen or have a Colombian heritage.
Other
Both parents are required to travel.
The age criteria is waived for families adopting a child 10+ years of age, 3+ siblings of any age, or a child of any age with a physical or psychological special need.
